In Episode 5 of the Dealing With Drugs podcast, hosts Stuart Clark and Tony Duffin explores contemporary drug policy, harm reduction, and the real-world impacts of prohibition through conversations with leading advocates and experts. The episode features Tatyana Sleiman, the Executive Director of Skoun, a non-profit, non-governmental outpatient addiction and harm-reduction centre based in Beirut, Kasia Malinowska, the Founding Director of Global Drug Policy at the Open Society Foundations and Andrzej Celinski, Co-founder of Reclaim Collective, who shares perspectives informed by lived experience and years of advocacy in substance use health, safer supply, and drug policy reform. Together, the discussion examines the challenges facing people who use drugs, the importance of evidence-based approaches, and the need for policies that prioritize health, dignity, and human rights over criminalization.

New Research Published
Published in May 2026, new research co-authored by RECLAIM’s Andrzej Celinski in the Harm Reduction Journal entitled: A continuum of disconnection: the impacts of safer supply program closures on continuity of care, transition, and total loss of service access highlights the severe consequences of Ontario safer supply program closures, documenting how they cause a “continuum of disconnection” that forces individuals into the toxic unregulated market. The qualitative study demonstrates that these closures lead to a total loss of service, undermining community safety and increasing overdose risks.

Jenn and Lauren will be interviewing people on their grief object related to substance use.
Do you live in rural Alberta? Have you experienced or are you currently experiencing substance use-related grief (e.g., loss of a loved one to substance, fear that a loved one may die in the future due to substance use)? Do you have a special object, such as a photograph, piece of clothing or small trinket, that represents your grief? We’d love to hear from you!
We are recruiting people living in rural Alberta for a research creation project on how substance use-related grief is represented through material objects (University of Alberta Research Ethics Board Pro000165941). You will be asked to complete a 60-90 minute interview over Zoom or in-person about your experience of substance use-related grief and life in rural Alberta. You will also be asked to bring an object that represents your grief. An artist will create a lithographic print of your object that will form a living art archive of “grief on the Prairies.” You will be compensated for your time and will receive one of the editions of your print.
